Woah there Tiger! I know what you’re thinking: A gift guide? Yup–a gift guide for the 2013 Christmas season…this one has a twist, though.
This morning I swung by the store to grab my coffee and sit for a while to catch up with some emails and work. While sitting sipping my coffee there is the occasion that I see something inspiring. This morning was no exception. A father and son were enjoying a hot chocolate. Everything aside it actually brings tears to my eyes right now recalling the scene.
Father and son. You don’t hear that phrase very often these days.
My dad is really good at giving his valuable time. He spends it with us–even at the beach learning to fly a sport kite with my brother.

When peace like a river
Attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot
You have taught me to say
It is well
It is well with my soul
You are the Rock
On which I stand
By Your grace it is well
My hope is sure
In Christ my savior
It is well with my soul

So by now in the post you’re probably wondering why I’ve just posted the lyrics to “It Is Well With My Soul?”
Happy Wardrobe Wednesday, readers! Last week I introduced a new Wardrobe Wednesday’s series entitled “Dress in the Wardrobe God Picked Out For You.” If we forget about our inward beauty our external beauty can get pretty ugly. So today I’m going to unpack compassion in our “Dress in the Wardrobe God Picked Out For You” series.
Compassion means to show love, to be loved by, to show mercy, to show concern, and to act kindly. Continue reading
This weekend we were in the Dress Barn helping Peter’s mom find warm clothes since she just arrived back from Cambodia! There is a 90 degree temperature difference between Cambodia and Oregon, as Oregon is in a cold and snowy spell.
Every mirror in the dressing rooms had this window cling (see photo above) on them. At first I thought it was very uplifting, especially since earlier that day I had started to believe a lie from the enemy that I wasn’t beautiful and that my outfit choice was making me look ugly (same outfit I’m wearing in the picture, I didn’t change). Thankfully we had prayed over that lie and I was feeling quite confident of the beauty God has blessed me (AND YOU!) with by the time we ended up in Dress Barn.
The more I thought about it the more I wanted to edit the window cling. Why do women have to wish and believe that they look great? Shouldn’t we truly believe that we are beautiful instead of wishing. The right outfit might help you think you’re beautiful. But truthfully the right outfit doesn’t define your true beauty. God defines your true beauty.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. -Psalm 139:13-14
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one… -Song of Solomon 2:10
Believe, You Are Beautiful!
This is the first Christmas that I’ve (finally) decorated my apartment. I’ve always went home for Christmas and didn’t see the point of decorating my apartment since my mom would have the house decorated with seven or more Christmas trees. There were Christmas decorations everywhere including the bathrooms and I loved it! When I was in college I loved putting ornaments, ribbon, and glitter pokes all over the trees (note: I didn’t like putting the fake tree together) once we got home from our Thanksgiving dinners.
This year I finally decided to buy my own medium size tree from Target because I wanted to decorate my own home for once. I also had my mom ship me the red tree, polka dot ribbon, and ornaments that were all in my Christmas stash in Iowa. (Thanks again for sending the decorations mom!) While I haven’t put Christmas decorations everywhere I do have one room that is quite spirited and today I want to share my Christmas decor with you.
